This year, we’ve seen a growing number of individuals and organisations using the wildlife data we curate—an encouraging sign of the region’s deepening commitment to nature recovery and evidence-based decision-making.
Highlights from 2024/25:
- 5 Million Species Records: Our database surpassed 5 million records, with 567 new datasets added—including valuable historical data and underrepresented invertebrate groups like spiders and beetles.
- Local Nature Recovery Strategies: Draft LNRS for Oxfordshire and Berkshire were developed and refined through public consultation. Final versions are expected later this year.
- Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG): We supported several local authorities with ecological assessments and feasibility studies for habitat creation and restoration.
- Community Science & Internships: TVERC hosted three groups of student interns and awarded Recorders’ Grants to support local wildlife groups.
- Local Wildlife Sites: 72 sites were surveyed across both counties, contributing to habitat mapping and conservation planning .
- Public Engagement: Events like the City Nature Challenge and Recorders’ Conferences drew strong participation, with over 3,700 wildlife observations recorded during CNC weekend .
- Digital Growth: We launched a redesigned website and expanded our social media presence—including joining BlueSky.
We’re proud of what we’ve achieved together and look forward to building on this momentum in the year ahead.
