Mend the Gap Project: Enhancing Wildlife Monitoring

We at Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC) are excited to announce that we are being funded by Mend the Gap (MTG), for a project focusing on key indicator and iconic species in MTG programme area (please see project area below or click here to download), and learning more about those that are observing wildlife in the area.

Two Key Components of the Project

1. Species Analysis and Mapping

The first part of the project involves analysing and mapping existing records for 35 key indicator and iconic species across nine taxon groups within the Mend the Gap area. This analysis will identify hotspots and cold spots in species distribution and observation, helping us better understand the region’s species monitoring needs for the future.

2. Wildlife Sightings Survey

To gain insights into the people who observe wildlife in the Mend the Gap area, TVERC is conducting a wildlife sightings survey. We invite anyone who spots wildlife within the Mend the Gap boundary or its surrounding 5km buffer to participate. The survey aims to gather feedback on the demographics and skills of current wildlife observers, identify any support they may need, and explore ways to engage new audiences in wildlife monitoring.

If you observe wildlife in the Mend the Gap area or its surrounding 5km buffer, whether as a hobby or part of your everyday life, we would love to hear from you.

You can return the completed form by email to tverc@oxfordshire.gov.uk or by post to Thames Valley Environmental Records Centre (TVERC), c/o Oxfordshire County Council, County Hall, New Road, Oxford, OX1 1ND.

The survey takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes to complete and will be open for responses until September 30, 2024.

We encourage you to share this survey with friends, family, and anyone who might be interested in contributing to wildlife monitoring in the Mend the Gap area. Your participation and support are invaluable in helping us enhance wildlife conservation efforts in this area.

Thank you for your support!
